ABOUT ME

Hi, and welcome to Live Your Life Fully! My name is Dr. Debbi Kooyman, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY20091) with over 20 years of experience. I work with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and relationship issues, and I specialize in working with adults who were abused as children.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UCLA, a Master's degee in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University, and a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. I have worked in a variety of settings, including a high school counseling center, community mental health centers, several college and university counseling centers, and now my private practice.

I first became interested in psychology as a young college student when I realized that psychology could help me better understand myself and my family, and throughout the years, I have learned a great deal about myself and have made a commitment to continually work on me and my own struggles. I am an active participant in my own therapy and in my own growth and healing, and as a result of this commitment and the work that I have done, I have learned many valuable lessons and gained understanding and insight that I share with my clients and that has helped me to become a more effective therapist and healer.

Because I too have struggled with painful emotions, have been hurt and wounded, and have found ways to push through and overcome my own obstacles, I am able to empathize with and understand those I work with and their struggles in ways that others in their lives may not. As I continue to grow and heal, my desire and commitment to help others grow and heal as well has strengthened and deepened. It is my deep desire and passion to “Save the world, one soul at a time.”

I believe that we all have an innate drive and desire to be our best selves but that sometimes obstacles have gotten in the way that have prevented us from achieving our full potential. In the therapeutic work that I do, I focus on providing a safe and nurturing environment where I can help those I work with identify and overcome the obstacles standing in their way so that they can be their true and best selves and can, like me, learn to live their lives fully.

If it sounds like I might be a good match for you,

Call me today at 714-225-0815 and we can talk about how I might be able to help you.

MY MISSION

My mission is two-fold:

  • First, I want to help every person I work with to live his/her life fully by helping them to identify and overome the obstacles that prevent them from living a full and complete life and from reaching their full potential.

  • Second, I want to help all of humankind have the opportunity to live their lives fully, and I am doing this by being involved on a global scale in efforts to correct inaccurate messages and inappropriate policies and behaviors that have been taught and disseminated throughout the world and have become obstacles for millions of individuals and prevented them from living full and healthy lives.

SERVICES & FEES

I provide individual counseling to adults ages 18 and older.

I specialize in working with adults who were abused as children.

I work mainly using a combination of humanistic, psychodynamic, internal family systems, and dialectical behavior therapies.

Sessions are usually 1 hour in length.

Fees are $250 for the initial intake session and $200 for each regular session. I also accept and am in-network with some insurance companies. If you don't have insurance, choose not to use your insurance, or want to use your out-of-network benefits to see me, please read the following:

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill

  for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises .
